Officials with the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) have announced that 43 companies will receive a total of $1.1 million in grant money through the DENR’s Recycling Business Assistance Center. The agency says the grants are expected to create more than 240 jobs, generate $22.9 million in new business investments and reduce the state’s dependence on landfills.
“We are pleased to make these awards,” says North Carolina’s DENR’s Secretary John Skvarla. “This program supports Governor McCrory’s efforts to accelerate business investment and private sector job growth in North Carolina.”
Staff in the recycling center issue request for proposals (RFP), typically once a year, and seek well-planned and effective proposals from recycling businesses in North Carolina wanting to start up or expand recovery efforts. Recipients are required to provide a minimum cash match of 50 percent of the grant award.
