North Carolina state lawmakers are considering a bill that would subject construction and demolition landfills to stricter regulation, according to a report in the McClatchy Newspapers (Myrtle Beach, S.C.).
If approved, the legislation could raise tipping fees for landfills that accept C&D debris, which could make recycling the material more attractive, according to the report. Orange County, N.C., is currently the only county in the state that requires C&D recycling.
C&D debris accounts for about a third of the trash thrown away in the state, according to the report.
