The Class I railroad Norfolk Southern (NS) has announced that its NS Metals marketing has announced a new rate increase published in Scrap Metal Tariff NSQ 72823 effective July 1, 2016.
According to the logistics firm Iron Horse Logistics, the Class I railroad last updated its Scrap Metal Tariff [NSQ 72823] Feb. 1, 2016.
An additional adjustment will be effective July 1, 2016. The tariff rates will be updated as follows:
- Pricing for system gondolas that are 2,650 cubic feet or greater capacity will increase 7 percent.
- Pricing for system gondolas that are less than 2,650 cubic feet will remain unchanged.
- Pricing for private gondolas will remain unchanged.
The increase will apply on all system gondolas, regardless of ownership that meet the minimum CF criteria. NS has indicated the premium is justified based on the larger volume capacity of the cars producing heavier loads.
