Norco Equipment, Columbia, S.C., has introduced its first grinder, the Dynamic 5240 horizontal model. Powered by a fuel-efficient Volvo Tier III 425-horsepower engine, the Dynamic 5240 grinder will produce up to 200 cubic yards per hour from infeed materials of up to 18 inches in diameter, according to Norco Equipment. The grinder operates with a 52-inch wide hammermill and can convert from swing to fixed hammers in as little as 45 minutes, the company says.
Designed to serve a wide range of small to medium-sized grinding applications, Norco Equipment says the Dynamic 5240 can be used as a primary and regrind machine. The hammermill processes material including biomass in the woods, slab wood at sawmills, tree debris and wood scrap from demolition sites. Switching to swing hammers, the 5240 quickly becomes a regrind station, the company says.

Using 12-14 gallons per hour of fuel at full production, the grinder can stand up to demanding, high volume applications with its Transfluid coupler, according to a company press release. As a true hydraulic fluid coupler, the Transfluid simplifies service and reduces downtime with no wear parts, and provides instant anti-jam protection for the hammermill and drive line, the press release states.
The infeed hopper provides a 54-inch-by-16-foot loading capacity. Processed material is sized through a selection of 1.5- to 5-inch screens. The company says screens can be changed in 15 to 20 minutes. The 36-inch wide belt has a standard discharge height of 15 feet.
Weighing less than 38,000 pounds, the wheeled Dynamic 5240 offers operators a horizontal grinder that the company says transports easily and is agile enough to fit into almost any jobsite. Models with track drive also are available for sites with soft soil conditions or unstable terrain.
