Cascades Inc., headquartered in Kingsey Falls, Quebec, has announced that Norampac, its containerboard packaging division, has completed the acquisition of a corrugated packaging plant in Newton, Connecticut, owned by Worcester, Mass.-based Rand-Whitney Container LLC. In exchange, Rand-Whitney will obtain the equipment and the customer list from Norampac’s facility in Thompson, Connecticut.
“The acquisition of the Newtown plant will allow us to increase our converting capacity, thereby strengthening our position as leader in the Northeastern United States. Its geographical location will also allow us to create synergies which, in turn, will optimize our assets. This strategic acquisition is perfectly in line with our growth plan,” says Charles Malo, Norampac’s president and COO.
