Norampac announces the permanent closure of one of its paper machines at its linerboard mill located in Red Rock, Ontario. The mill currently has two paper machines.
At full capacity the machine produced around 150,000 tons of kraft linerboard a year.
"Norampac can no longer afford to operate this machine under the present market conditions," said Marc-André Dépin, president and CEO of Norampac Inc.
No decision has yet been taken regarding paper machine no. 2, which produces about 300,000 short tons a year. Norampac is currently considering all possible alternatives in order to optimize its profitability.
The mill will be closed Sept. 22..
