Non-Profit Group Jumps into Document Destruction Business

Goodwill hopes to operate NAID certified operation.

Goodwill Industries of Southeast Michigan is in the process of installing equipment to expand its recycling plant to include secure document shredding.

 

The organization, located in Adrian, Mich., recently received grant money to purchase a shredder from Allegheny Shredders. At the present time Goodwill needs to look at rewiring the building where the shredding and recycling division are located.

 

Linda Gentry, with Goodwill, said her organization is presently working with the company for specifications needed to have the shredder fit in Goodwill’s building. Additionally, Gentry notes that Goodwill Industries is presently working on several other grant proposals to allow the organization to add a baler and conveyor line to the shredder.

 

Goodwill hopes to start operations of the shredding side by this July, and the plan is for the shredding side to become NAID certified. Drive-through recycling center explored. According to local press reports the agency hopes to handle as much as 1,500,000 pounds of paper a year.

 

While Goodwill hopes to have the operation available this summer, they also are seeking to have a new facility which would allow the company to begin handling electronic scrap, something that the non-profit agency would like to add to their menu of material in the future.
