Non-Profit Company Expands Operations

Austin Task to expand staff as it grows its document-destruction business.

Austin Task Inc., a nonprofit that provides janitorial services and employs local people with disabilities, is expanding its services and staff.

 

The company, headquartered in Austin, Tex., is broadening its services to include secure data destruction, which will allow the company to grow its workforce by about 7 percent by the end of 2005.

 

Austin Task's new document-shredding service will include free locked disposal bins for local businesses and regularly scheduled pick ups by uniformed, bonded workers, according to the company.

 

Document destruction services will also be available to the general public to destroy outdated personal data, such as bank statements, credit card bills and check stubs.

 

For businesses, Austin Task will provide a service it claims will help companies mitigate identity theft and corporate espionage, thereby reducing their exposure to loss and liability.

 

The expansion will also allow Austin Task to make more hires.

 

The company, which currently employs more than 175 disabled individuals in Central Texas, had focused on its building maintenance business for the past 10 years. With its new document-destruction service, the company plans to add between 25 and 30 employees this year. Austin Business Journal
