The Virginia Recycling Association (VRA), based in Ivy, Virginia, has announced it is accepting entries for top recycling programs in the commonwealth for its annual VRA Awards program.
This year, the award categories are Show Me the Way, Lemonade and Best in Show. Recyclers have an opportunity to spotlight how they explain recycling to their customers in Show Me the Way, how they have turned a bad situation into something “wonderful” in the Lemonade category and how their program has made a difference in their community in Best of Show.
"The Virginia Recycling Association is thrilled to recognize exemplary recyclers with our 2018 Recycling Awards,” says Margaret Eldridge, VRA executive director. “The VRA awards program shines a spotlight on the importance of recycling to Virginia’s economy, environmental protection and sustainable management of over 12 million tons of waste generated annually in the state.”
In addition to bragging rights, winners will be recognized at VRA’s annual luncheon Nov. 5 in Charlottesville and will receive a complimentary one-year VRA membership.
Each year the VRA recognizes the best waste reduction and recycling programs in the state at the awards ceremony. Nominations are sought from the public and private sectors, business, industry, schools, government and nongovernment agencies, agencies, civic or volunteer organizations and individuals for recognition in various categories.
Nominees can enter online here before the 5 p.m. Sept. 19 deadline. Applicants do not need a VRA membership to participate, but the nominated person or program must be Virginia-based. Winners will be notified by Sept. 28.
