Academy Corp., based in Albuquerque, N.M., has purchased a competitor located in Utah. The firm recycles silver from the photography industry and other sources.
The company announced that it purchased Pioneer Refining Services, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, for an undisclosed sum.
That facility, which recycles silver from the photography industry, will continue to operate under the name Academy Pioneer LLC.
"We are very pleased to continue the proud Pioneer tradition of quality customer service," said Keith Philippi, Academy’s CEO. "This acquisition also adds considerable market-share to Academy's existing silver refining and recovery business and makes us the largest refiner serving the imaging industry."
Academy Corp. provides supplies to the jewelry industry, refining services to industrial and commercial precious metal users, catalysts to the chemical process industry, silver recovery equipment services to the photography processing industry and various products to electronics, glass and other industries.
The company also performs a small amount of gold refining and recycling, Philippi said.
