Petra Group, an environmental technology company headquartered in Malaysia, announced plans to build its first tire recycling facility in the United States in Gallup, NM.
The company claims it has developed a patented technology of rubber/tire recycling called De-link that is non-toxic, requires low heat, and produces no waste, effluent discharge, or smoke. The process breaks down tire waste into a natural green rubber compound, 100 percent of which can then be resold to rubber product manufacturers. The process is the first of its kind in the world.
Vindo Sekhar, president of The Petra Group, as well and founder ofd the Green Rubber technology, said the facility in New Mexico would be the first of its kind in the world. The operation is expected to provide more than 140 jobs once operating at full capacity.
