NJ Recycler Expanding Operations

Cinelli Iron & Metal looks to build ferrous operation in Secaucus, NJ.

Due to the success of its operations, Cinelli Iron & Metal, located in Hackensack, N.J., is hoping to break ground on a new facility in Secaucus, N.J., either this winter, or early next spring, depending on the weather conditions.

According to Craig Cinelli, vice president of the family owned business, the new facility is about 4.8 acres. The company’s one scrap yard is only slightly more than one acre, so the new site would give the company a significant amount more room to operate.

According to local press, the land the company purchased has been idle for more than 20 years.

The new plot of land will focus on handling the company’s ferrous scrap. Down the road there also is the possibility the new yard would handle some street traffic. The company presently processes around 55,000 tons of ferrous scrap a year, which, Cinelli notes, the company hopes to grow.

As to some people who express apprehension about the new facility, Cinelli notes that the new facility would not take in any automobiles, rather most of the ferrous scrap would be fairly clean industrial scrap. Also, the location of the yard is on a dead end street, and already has been zoned for heavy industrial usage. The location also has been approved for recycling a wide range of materials.

Addressing other potential concerns from residents, “We are one of the cleanest facilities in the country,” Cinelli adds. “Two of our 13 trucks are washed and waxed every day. Further, the company will be putting in fencing and perform some landscaping to further improve the facility."

Equipment that will be installed on the facility include processing equipment from Sierra International, Sennebogen, LaBounty, and Fuchs.

The company also has received a number of awards over the past 30 years of operations, including a Family Business of the Year Award from Farleigh Dickinson University.

“We will be an asset to Secaucus, Cinelli says.” In addition to the more than 50 employees the company presently has the company will undoubtedly hire additional people from Secaucus for the new facility."
