According to the Waste Management Assn. of Malaysia, plastics make up between 15-17 percent of Penang’s solid waste composition, with that figure growing, while the recycling rate for plastic is just 3 percent. Because of this, the government, with support from environmentalists and non-governmental organizations, has been promoting recycling, as well as a reduction in total plastic demand.
NGR, produces machinery for the recycling of post-industrial thermoplastics, states that it is the second largest claiming the number-two position in the world market. In 2008, turnover was 15.4 million euros, with expected sales of 15 million euros for 2009-2010.
