Cushman & Wakefield has announced it has been retained by Nexus Fuels, an Atlanta-based company that converts end-of-life plastics into feedstock for the plastics industry and fuels, for site selection services across the globe as part of the company’s expansion plans.
JT Faircloth and John Jackson of Cushman & Wakefield will oversee initial national site selection process, which will likely lead to other parts of the world where Nexus sites are being evaluated, the commercial real estate firm says.
“Site selection is an important part of the process to economically convert previously landfill-bound plastics into new plastics, which Nexus does along with their global partners,” Faircloth says. “Proximity to labor, ports, rail and plastics feedstock all weigh heavily in the decision-making process.”
Twelve 12 locations or more will be purchased or leased by the first quarter of 2022 in the United States, Europe and other parts of the world, according to Cushman a& Wakefield. Nexus plans to be operational at these locations by 2023.
“Cushman & Wakefield, a global leader in industrial site selection services, will accelerate our plans to meet the demands of our partners seeking to meet their outsized recycled content plastics objectives,” says Jeff Gold, Nexus CEO. “We are excited to add them as a strategic partner, complementing our recent strategic EPC (engineering, procurement and production) partnership announcement with Wood.”
In late June, Nexus announced that it has entered into a strategic relationship with Wood plc, a consulting and engineering firm, to globally expand its advanced molecular plastics recycling business.
Since 2018, Nexus has been operating a commercial-scale production plant in Atlanta, diverting more than 2.5 million pounds of waste and producing liquids that partners such as Shell and Chevron Phillips convert into circular plastics through long-term supply agreements.
Nexus has received International Sustainability and Carbon-Plus (ISCC Plus) Certification for converting a broad range of previously landfill-bound plastics into products that are then converted into new plastics.
