The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) has launched ecoNEW, an online electronics trade-in service that helps customers’ nationwide get rid of their older, unwanted, small to midsize electronics through a free e-scrap recycling program, the press release says.
NEXCOM customers can trade in older electronics for a gift card, the value of which is determined by a recycle trade-in value generated at the Web site www.navy-nex.com.
NEXCOM’s ecoNEW program accepts LCD monitors, LCD TVs, digital cameras, PC desktops and laptops, gaming systems, MP3 players, camcorders and smartphones/PDAs.
The ecoNEW program, which is operated by N.E.W. Customer Service Companies Inc. (NEW), Sterling, Va., has a “no export and no landfill” guarantee. Electronic equipment received will be either reconditioned or recycled, the company says. Some items may be sold into the secondary or used market in whole machine form or disassembled and sold off as usable service parts.
“We are honored to extend the ecoNEW program to a retailer that serves active-duty members, family members, retirees, National Guard members and reservists within the U.S. Navy,” says Tony Nader, president and CEO of NEW. “NEXCOM works to provide its customers with quality goods and services at a savings and to support quality-of-life programs. NEW is proud to support these efforts by offering NEXCOM customers a great eco-friendly solution for disposing of electronics while also getting cash value back that they can use with the retailer.”
EcoNEW is being offered to retailers as a value-added customer care solution, the press release says.
To participate in the NEXCOM electronics trade-in program:
1. Access online – Go to www.navy-nex.com.
2. Enter product information – Use the online form to enter information about the electronic item to be recycled, including condition details and whether or not all the cords and original packaging are available. Based on that input, the screen will calculate what the estimated trade-in value will be.
3. Enter contact information – Enter contact information to receive a retail gift card for the value of the item.
4. Receive free shipping – The ecoNEW system will generate a free shipping label that the consumer can print out.
