The Newark Group closed its recycled paperboard mill in Gardiner, Maine on Thursday, laying off 40 people, according to an Associated Press report.
The 125-year-old mill had been operating at a reduced capacity for much of the year, said Fred G. von Zuben, Newark Group president.
The Newark Group said its Newark Papertube operation in South Gardiner, Maine, will remain open.
