The Newark Group’s Fitchburg, Mass., paperboard mill has been fined $19,900 by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection for violating various state air pollution control, hazardous waste management, industrial wastewater management, and toxic use reduction act regulations.
DEP inspections in February 2004 found that the paper company failed to obtain the necessary permits and file reports over managing some hazardous waste.
The company agreed to pay $9,900 of the penalty, with the remaining $10,000 being suspended pending the company’s completion of a Supplemental Environmental Project.
