New Mexico Recycling is looking to open a second scrap metal yard in the Village of Milan, N.M. The proposed facility would include the installation of equipment that will allow it to crush cars, white goods and others types of metal.
To accomplish this, the company will be going before the village’s Planning and Zoning Commission on March 8 to obtain a conditional use permit.
Evette Montaño, code enforcement officer for the village, says that if the company receives approval, it will take over a facility that used to be an auto wrecking yard but has since closed.
Montaño says that Commission will make a decision on whether or not to approve the conditional use permit after the company presents its case in front of the commission during a public hearing. She adds that the Commission should have a decision made by March 10.
If the company receives approval, the company can go ahead with its project, assuming it has all its other permits and licenses in place, Montaño says. If the commission does not approve the project, New Mexico Recycling has the option of appealing the decision to the village’s board of trustees.
