The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has announced the awarding of $4.5 million in grant money to a number of counties and municipalities in that state. The money will be used to boost recycling levels in the state.
"With New Jersey generating more than 20 million tons of solid waste every year, we need to do all we can to boost recycling rates," said DEP Commissioner Lisa P. Jackson. "This funding will support local recycling programs and help reduce the amount of waste going to landfills and other facilities."
The recycling grant awards are performance-based, requiring specific documentation of total material recycled during calendar year 2004, the latest annual statistics available for the state.
