Bandit Industries Inc., Remus, Mich., has introduced its latest addition, the 15-inch diameter capacity Model 1490XP drum chipper.
Bandit, who also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the original Brush Bandit chipper this year, began developing this unit after the success of the 12-inch diameter Model 1090XP drum chipper, introduced in November 2007, the company says.
Both units have a compact design for easy towing and maneuvering, and an oversized drum for smooth, efficient chipping. A larger diameter drum allows the material to be chipped on the bottom half of the drum and on an angle with the grain of the wood, reducing vibration and fuel consumption.
“Over the years we have run a lot of different chippers,” says Mark Marriott of Marriott Tree Equipment in Sydney, Australia. “We’ve never seen a drum chipper process Australian hardwood like the Bandit drum chipper.” He continues, “Other machines just look like they’re working their guts out, but Bandit drum chippers are so smooth, so efficient; it’s fantastic.”
The Model 1490XP features a 17 to ¾-inch-by-19.5-inch high chipper opening to accommodate material up to 15 inches in diameter. The engine can run up to 142 horsepower. All Bandit drum chippers feature the patented Power Slot system, which allows for greater chip velocity and eliminates plugging.
