New Date for ISRI-Cleveland Cavs Event

ISRI Northern Ohio fundraiser moved to March 22.

The Northern Ohio Chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) is again hosting a March scholarship fundraising event that will allow scrap recyclers to take the court at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena and then stay and watch LeBron James and the Cavaliers try to match their performance.

The event, which has been re-scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, will include an afternoon tournament among scrap recyclers on the Quicken Loans Arena (formerly Gund Arena) floor, seats to the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Toronto Raptors NBA basketball game, and a pre-game dinner catered at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.

ISRI Northern Ohio Chapter Scholarship Committee member Michael Eisner is now accepting orders for tickets and the pre-game dinner, as well as accepting entries for teams that wish to participate in the scrap all-stars tournament.

Last year, six teams vied for the championship spot, with the ISRI Michigan Chapter taking home the title. Four Ohio companies—Lakeside Metals of Cleveland; Dart Metals Trading Co. of Youngstown; Metal Conversions Inc. of Mansfield; and Slesnick Iron and Metals of Canton—plus the Pittsburgh ISRI chapter all put teams into the tournament.

The most memorable moment of last year’s competition, according to Eisner, was a desperation hook shot at the buzzer made by Greg Goldstein of Newco Metals, Pendleton, Ind., to help the ISRI Michigan Chapter win over Slesnick Iron and Metals.

Last year’s tournament organizer, Arnold Fish of Metals Conversions, says the event raised nearly $10,000 for the ISRI Northern Ohio scholarship fund.

Price ranges for those wishing to participate in the event range from $50 for the Cavaliers game only, plus a $75 tax-deductible donation to the Scholarship Fund. Additional costs and donations will be paid by tournament participants and those attending the pre-game dinner.

Eisner says that, like last year, there will be additional sponsorship opportunities, and that those wishing to take on sponsorships can do so in time for 2005 tax purposes. One sponsorship opportunity Eisner hopes to put together will be to underwrite Cavalier Girls to cheer on ISRI tournament participants during part of the afternoon contest.
