China's Zouping Aluminium Co said its new 70,000 metric tons per year production plant has come on stream and is planning to expand its capacity to 200,000 tpy.
"The plant began operations in early May. Our company's production capacity now stands at 70,000 tpy," a company official told Reuters.
Zouping is in talks with a foreign firm on an expansion project to raise its capacity to 200,000 tpy, the official said, but declined to elaborate.
Many Chinese firms like Zouping are expanding their aluminum facilities to fuel strong domestic demand for the metal and the country's export drive.
China's aluminum output expected to grow a robust 20 percent to 5.3-5.4 million metric tons to 2003, making it the world's largest producer of the versatile metal. Reuters
