The municipality of Neuquén in central Argentina is preparing to crush and recycle some 1,200 vehicles it says were abandoned within the city or confiscated by its police department and never reclaimed.
An online article on the lmneuquen.com website says the city will retain the scrap metal value of the cars paid by recyclers in the city treasury.
Many of the vehicles are motorcycles, according to the report. Owners of all vehicles are notified before they are destroyed, according to a city administrator quoted by the news organization.
In the case of many two-wheeled vehicles, owners find it less expensive to buy replacement vehicles rather than pay fines and claim their old ones, according to the report.
