Nestlé, Bloomberg Join e-Stewards Enterprises Group

E-Stewards Enterprises pledge to use certified recyclers for their obsolete electronics.

The Basel Action Network (BAN), based in Seattle, has announced two corporations, Nestle and Bloomberg LP, have signed on as members of BAN’s e-Stewards Enterprises. The two companies join LG Electronics, NVIDIA, Capitol One, Samsung, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Alcoa as e-Stewards Enterprise members.

“Leaders lead, and these organizations have demonstrated that the status quo where toxic electronic waste is routinely dumped in developing countries is just not acceptable anymore,” Jim Puckett, BAN executive director, says. “Companies around the world are realizing that, just as it is vital to reduce our carbon footprint, we need to reduce our toxics footprint as well.”

BAN developed the e-Stewards Certification and manages it with the e-Stewards Leadership Council, which includes representatives from original equipment manufacturers, major corporations, recyclers, government agencies and other environmental groups.

In addition to corporate members, the local governments of King County, Wash., and Santa Clara County, Calif., have passed laws and adopted policies directing electronic scrap to e-Stewards Certified recyclers.

Dave Colville, Nestle Waters North America chief information officer, says, “Nestlé Waters North America is proud to champion the proper disposal of electronic waste on behalf of the five Nestlé operating companies in the U.S. Becoming an e-Stewards Enterprise is another way we can reduce our environmental footprint and affirm our commitment to sustainability and waste reduction that is core to Nestlé’s businesses.”

Skott Ahn, LG Electronics Inc. president and chief technology officer, says, “LG has always been committed to providing consumers the highest quality products available, while reducing the environmental impacts of the manufacturing and use of those products. Our partnership with BAN and e-Stewards recyclers demonstrates LG’s commitment to reducing the impacts of products at the end of their life.”
