Speakers will address recycling markets for products using large-volume recycled content feedstock Tuesday, Oct. 21, while those speaking Oct. 22 will examine recycling, greenhouse gas emissions savings and the economy.
Jim Bosch, previously manager of environmental services for Target Corp. and the National Recycling Coalitions 2003 Recycler of the Year, will give Tuesday’s keynote address, “The Importance of Supporting Existing and New Recycling Markets.”
Also on Tuesday’s agenda, David Jeanes of American Iron & Steel Institute, and George Manning, formerly of Energy Cooperative of Ohio, will address steel utility poles; Bill Turley, executive director of Construction Materials Recycling Association and associate publisher of Construction & Demolition Recycling (formerly C&D Recycler) magazine, will facilitate a discussion on wallboard with Tom Kacandes, Taylor Recycling Facility LLC, Steve Carlier of Georgia Pacific Gypsum and Jim McQuade of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection; and Dr. Prabhat Krishnaswamy, Engineering Mechanics Corp. of Columbus, will address structural plastics for railroad ties and marine applications.
Wednesday’s Keynote speaker will be William Dougherty of Tellus Institute, presenting “Climate Change and Its Impact on the Northeast Region.” Charles Parker of Boston Carbon and Stephen Myers of Marsh Inc. will address greenhouse gas emissions savings and sustainability and Lori Segall, Summerville, Mass., and Christa Koehler, Keene, N.H., will talk about how supporting grassroots approaches can maintain interest in climate change. Mary Ann Remolador of NERC will also provide instruction on the organization’s environmental benefits calculator and how states can use it to promote recycling.
A meeting of the NERC Board of Directors will follow the conference Oct. 23.
