Nebraska DEQ Awards Recycling Grant Money

State agency allocates money to boost recycling, public awareness and litter cleanup.

The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality has announced the awarding of close to $1.3 million for 54 grants for litter cleanup, recycling, and public education programs and activities. Funds for the program are generated from a fee charged to certain manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers of products that commonly contribute to litter.

 

Several grant winners are the following:

 

City of Laurel, $111,529. The money will be used to construct a new building and recycling site to house the recycling equipment and baled recyclables. T

 

Keep Scottsbluff – Gering Beautiful, $14,566. The grant money will to increase the recycling program partnership with schools and businesses. The grant will also fund a second Electronic Community Collection Event. The first event collected over 15,000 pounds of assorted electronic equipment.
