The city of McCook, Neb., is close to approving a grant application to apply for a $100,000 to the state of Nebraska’s Department of Environmental Quality. Additionally, the city is expected to submit a second grant application to the state’s Environmental Trust Fund this year for $400,000. The grant money the city hopes to obtain will go toward the construction of a new recycling center/transfer station the city operates on its closed landfill.
McCook’s City Council indicated at its meeting Jan. 20, that it would approve the grant application, although it requested a final copy of the grant application before making an official decision. The City Council will be holding a special meeting Jan. 29th to sign off on the application.
The money raised through the two grant applications will be added to the approximately $200,000 the city has saved for its future solid waste plans.
The solid waste and recyclables processed at the combination recycling center/transfer station come from a wide area of Nebraska, as well as part of Kansas.Latest from Recycling Today
