Wake County, N.C. will be issuing $40,000 in grant money for business recycling projects by this winter. The goal of the money is to find companies offering innovative recycling programs.
The deadline for applications is Nov. 27.
"The grant program can provide capital to purchase recycling bins or other equipment that can help a business start a recycling program," said Kelley Dennings, Wake County's Commercial Waste Reduction Specialist.
Current 2002 grant recipients include Brooks Contractor, Meredith College, NC State University Wood Products Extension, Peace College, Planet Earth Projects and The Leaflight, Inc. These organizations sought grant funding to start composting projects, recycle in dormitories, grind old concrete and coordinate recycling workshops.
To apply for the 2003 grant round and obtain an application call the Wake County Solid Waste Management Division at (919) 856-5277 or download it from the Internet at www.co.wake.nc.us/solidwaste.
