The Metro Nashville, Tenn., Solid Waste Regional Board has deferred a decision on a proposed construction and demolition facility, according to a report in the Nashville City Paper.
The board held a public hearing Nov. 29 on the Newsom Pointe Land Reclamation Project, which would fill a 17-acre rock quarry with C&D debris.
According to the report, a decision will have to be made by Jan. 11, or the project will be approved automatically because the board is required to issue decisions 90 days after an application is submitted.
The proposed site will accept only dry material such as rock, dirt, concrete and wood from nearby construction sites. Other materials, such as carpet pads, tires, pallets and electronics will be sorted for possible recycling, according to the report.
The project has been proposed by a partnership called John I LLC. According to the Nashville City Paper, the company says it will take about 10 years to fill the quarry.
The proposal has already been approved by the Metro Council.
