Nantucket Raises C&D Disposal Fees

Fee hiked 16 percent to cover shipping costs.

The Board of Selectmen of Nantucket, Mass., has voted to increase the tonnage fee for disposal of construction and demolition debris at the town landfill by $45 to cover the costs of shipping the material to an off-island facility, according to a report in the Island and Mirror (Nantucket, Mass.).

The 16 percent increase raised disposal costs for haulers from $281 per ton to $326 per ton. On July 1, a state law imposed by the Department of Environmental Protection will prohibit the disposal of C&D debris at Massachusetts landfills, except for approved processing centers.
