NAID announces 2016 conference keynote speaker

Captain Richard Phillips, subject of the film “Captain Phillips,” to address attendees.

The National Association for Information Destruction (NAID), Phoenix, has announced that Captain Richard Phillips will be a keynote speaker at its 2016 annual conference in Orlando, Florida, in April.

Phillips, the subject of the 2013 Oscar-nominated film “Captain Phillips” starring Tom hanks, is attributed with heroic actions and quick thinking at the helm of a cargo ship hijacked by Somali pirates in 2009.

Though he describes himself as a “regular guy,” the world knows that Captain Phillips’ actions were anything but ordinary after the pirate attack, NAID says, adding, “His harrowing and heroic efforts to survive an ordeal that riveted the world were only matched in valor by his decisive actions to save his crew and the ship they sailed.”

President Obama has said Phillips’ “courage is a model for all Americans.”

In his keynote speech, “Steering Your Ship Through Rough Waters: Lessons on Leadership from Captain Phillips,” Phillips shares his story. NAID says the talk is “presented in his warm, highly personal style—but also draws lessons from those dramatic events that can help attendees survive and thrive, stressing the vital importance of leadership and teamwork, combined with a belief in the power and potential of a good leader and a good team.”

The NAID 2016 Annual Conference and Expo will be April 7-9, 2016, at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld. Additional event details are available on the event website, www.naidconf.org
