Munson introduces stand-alone lump breaker

Munson Machinery, Utica, New York, has introduced the RDC-1530-SS, a new declumper lump breaker model with a support base and an infeed hopper designed for stand-alone operation.

The self-standing configuration can be fed from a variety of upstream sources, including hand-held containers, and can straddle downstream equipment, drums, boxes or mobile bins for processing, storage or packaging.

The unit breaks down lumps in bulk materials, such as plastic flakes or pellets, that have solidified during storage or shipment, returning products to their original particle sizes and flowability.

Material entering the 15-inch-by-30-inch infeed throat via the hopper is reduced in size by dual rotors with stainless steel breaking heads that rotate with minimum clearance inside a curved, perforated bedscreen. Materials exit through apertures in twin bedscreens ranging from 1/32nd to 2.5 inches in diameter.

Powered by a 5-horsepower motor with self-lubricating chain and sprocket drive, the synchronized shafts rotate at approximately 120 revolutions per minute to avoid heating the product. The bedscreen can be removed for cleaning or replacement.

The manufacturer says the design withstands heavy use and is easy to maintain. The bearings can be lubricated through external fittings and are isolated from the product processing area with ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene air purge block seals.

Constructed of No. 304 or No. 316 stainless steel, the unit is available with casters for mobility and can be finished to food, pharmaceutical or industrial standards. The unit also is offered in abrasion resistant stainless steel to withstand demanding industrial applications.

High-capacity models with up to four rotors, a 40-horsepower motor and inlets to 48 inches squared also are offered.
