The Metal Recycling Association of India (MRAI) hosted the fourth edition of its national conference in late January 2017 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.
The event was designed to bring together metal producers, traders, recyclers and end users from across around the world to discuss the state of the global metals markets. A news release issued by Salam Al Sharif of the United Arab Emirates-based Sharif Group says more than 1,000 delegates attended the event in Jaipur.
Sharif, in addition to serving as chairman of Sharif Group, also is the president of the Dubai, UAE-based Bureau of Middle East Recycling (BMR) and is chair of the Ambassadors Committee of the Brussels-based Bureau of International Recycling.
Sharif was among the speakers at the 2017 MRAI conference, offering his insights on the “Circular Economy in the Middle East,” and how India and the Middle East (particularly the UAE) have been strengthening their trading ties. Sharif says this has “helped in the growth and interdependence of trade between the Middle East and India.
Regarding the changing dynamics of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region’s scrap recycling market and the importance the region is to India as a source of supply, Sharif referred to it as a region rife with conflict but rich in cash and natural resources.
The BMR president also emphasized the importance of cooperation between the BMR and MRAI as national and regional associations to successfully deliver “the crucial mission of staying on the course of higher industry growth and [working toward] the betterment of its members and the industry as a whole.”
Sharif also urged delegates to consider attending the 6th BMR International Conference, to be held at the Madinat Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai 4-5 March 2017, as well as upcoming 2017 BIR conventions in Hong Kong (22-24 May) and New Delhi (14-16 October).
