Morris Recycling has selected a 14-acre site at the port Itawamba, Fulton, Miss., to develop a scrap metal shredding operation and office complex. The company plans to initially employ eight to 10 workers.
"The Itawamba County Board of Supervisors has placed recruiting more and better jobs to Itawamba County as our priority. This project is a step in that direction," said Gary Franks, Itawamba County administrator.
Morris Recycling of Fulton Inc. was the first company to load a barge at Port Itawamba when the waterway initially opened, and the company and the port have continued to share a positive relationship throughout the years.
Joe Morris, vice president of Morris Recycling, noted that the company is in the planning phase of the project now, and has projected to be in operation by the end of the second quarter of this year.
