As concerns over identity theft grow, more communities, along with local shredding and document destruction firms, are putting together one-day events to promote the need to have confidential documents safely and securely destroyed.
Residents of Morgantown, W.V., were able to take part in a one-day program with Edwards Document Destruction Co., as well as the local county sheriff’s department and representatives from the local Better Business Bureau of the Consumer Credit Service.
Residents of Colonie, N.Y., also were offered a one-day shredding event. Schaap Records Management’s Certified Shredding Services division extended the one-day event at the city’s 4th Free Shredding day.
About 7,000 pounds of paper were shredded during the event.
The next shredding day is scheduled for April 22.
