Alan DeSous, with the city’s Executive Committee, noted that the expansion will affect more than 54,000 households.
Thirteen boroughs currently receive full recycling services for apartment buildings of nine or more units. The additional funding granted will extend the services to six more boroughs: Lachine, L'Ile-Bizard-Sainte-Genevieve, Montreal-Nord, Pierrefonds-Roxboro, Saint-Laurent and Saint-Leonard. Four reconstituted municipalities--Cote Saint-Luc, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Dorval and Montreal-West--will also receive funding from the Agglomeration Council.
"Through this effort, Montreal is taking a major step toward achieving the goal of recycling and reclaiming 60 percent of recyclable materials by 2008 as set in the Government of Quebec's Residual Materials Management Policy, 1998-2008 and attests to the city's firm commitment to emphasize sustainable development," said DeSousa.
