A San Antonio, Texas, scrap metal recycling firm, Monterrey Iron & Metal, is being recognized by the Ecumenical Center for Religion and Health for its ethically based operations. The company is receiving an award by the organization in the Mid-Sized business category by at the non-profit group's Ethics in Business Awards banquet, April 18th.
According to local press reports the company was recognized for its generosity to employees, vendors, clients and neighborhood schools, and for minimizing the impact of its business on the environment by using natural gas instead of diesel.
The company also says that it has never laid off an employee, despite trying times for the company, which has been around for 90 years.
The company has around 65 employees, and handles a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal.
