Enval has been commissioned by Montebello Packaging, Canada, to test Enval’s patented material recovery process on Montebello’s aluminum laminate tubes.
Enval claims that its technology offers a recycling route for flexible laminate packaging that separates the material into its constituent components, producing clean aluminum ready to be introduced into the secondary aluminum supply chain. The process is economically and environmentally viable and offers a much greener outcome for waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill or incinerated.
"Enval is delighted to be showcasing its process to customers," says David Boorman, Enval’s Business Development manager. "We are taking plastic aluminum laminate from Montebello, one of the top five tube manufacturers in North America, and recovering the aluminum, pyrolysis oils and gases using Enval’s new technology. Enval is testing Montebello’s own production waste to demonstrate the commercial viability of the process." The Enval Process opens the way for packaging systems based on these materials, such as aseptic drink cartons, food pouches and laminate tubes, to be completely recycled. Capable of handling material either as scrap from the production and filling processes or postconsumer waste, the Enval Process will strongly enhance the green credentials of these types of packaging.
"Montebello is constantly seeking to position itself as an industry leader with respect to environmental matters." says Betty Pilon, Montebello's CEO. "When we saw the potential advantages offered by the Enval Process we immediately felt that there was an ideal fit with our corporate aspirations. We’re obviously very excited about exploring the capabilities of this technology with Montebello’s materials," she added
Enval, originally formed as a spin-out from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge, is a privately funded company. In parallel to the technical development and commercialization of its proprietary processes, Enval provides environmental life cycle analysis and technology consultancy, with particular emphasis on the pyrolytic recycling of complex flexible packaging materials.
