Kyocera 200 Module Enables Wireless Monitoring for SmartTrash Remote Trash Compactor System

Kyocera Wireless Corp., a leading manufacturer of CDMA wireless devices, and American Trash Management Inc. (ATM) today announced the deployment of SmartTrash, a remote wireless trash compactor monitoring system. Kyocera's CDMA-based technology will be integrated into ATM's technology, allowing for easier, simpler and faster information transfer from trash compactor locations across North America.

"The SmartTrash application of the Kyocera 200 Module will enable any business with a trash compactor to enjoy the benefits of remote management of compactor pickups, reducing both waste disposal and labor costs," Dean Fledderjohn, manager of Kyocera's M2M business segment, says. "ATM's use of Kyocera's CDMA technology further extends our leadership in next generation remote management technology and M2M connectivity."

SmartTrash demonstrates to the marketplace a new way of utilizing Kyocera's module technology by enabling remote compactor monitoring without a phone line. ATM's SmartTrash is designed to reduce disposal costs for all generators of standard municipal solid waste with trash compactors, including supermarkets, malls, retailers, hospitals, schools, distribution centers, office buildings and apartment complexes. SmartTrash can also be utilized by waste haulers or recyclers interested in optimizing their customers' compactor pickups.

"Sophisticated businesses know that remotely monitoring trash compactors reduces costs," Steven Seltzer, vice president of marketing for American Trash Management, says. "The main barrier to monitoring is getting a phone line to the site. SmartTrash eliminates that problem by providing a wireless service, making setup of our compactor monitoring system easy, quick and low cost."
