Mobile Council Approves Salvage Yard

Pull-A-Part hopes to have facility operational by either the end of this year or early next year.

The Mobile, Ala., City Council voted unanimously to approve the greenfield construction of an auto parts retailer facility in the city. By the vote of 6-0, the Council permitted Pull-A-Part to build and operate a facility.

Steve Levetan, senior VP for Pull-A-Part, said that the company has not officially purchased the land, although it is closing on around a 60-acre site at the present time. The company, which hopes to open the facility by either the end of this year or early next year, will use around 20 acres to locate the automobiles. According to some press reports the company will be spending between $4-5 million to build the Mobile facility.

Pull-A-Part, which has been in operation for 10 years, is owned by the former owners of Central Metals. At the present time the company operates seven locations scattered throughout the eastern half of the country, with between 9-10 other sites under construction. These facilities include greenfield projects, brownfield projects, and other companies that Pull-A-Part acquires.

Along with the announcement in Mobile, Pull-A-Part also recently received approval to site auto parts facilities in Memphis, Tenn., and Indianapolis, Ind.

Those two announcements follows two other Pull-A-Part facilities that were opened in the past year. Those are located in Augusta, Ga., and Louisville, Ky.

Other new locations will include: Baton Rouge, La.; Cleveland; Jackson, Miss.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Lafayette, La.; Montgomery, Ala.; and New Orleans.
