Virginia Wrecking Co. of Stapleton, Ala., has been awarded a $1.3 million contract by the Mobile (Alabama) County Commission to tear down the old county courthouse, according to a report in the Mobile Register (Mobile, Ala.).
According to the report, asbestos removal from the more-than-50-year-old structure will begin in early August. Demolition will follow once the asbestos is removed, county spokeswoman Barbara Drummond tells the Register.
