MO City Seeks New Site for Recycling Center

Two recycling facilities are being closed due to construction projects.

The City of Independence, MO, has decided to review alternative sites for its recycling center. A new site is necessary because the city’s two present recycling centers must be closed.

The two recycling centers are being closed due to construction projects. One recycling center will be replaced by a new street, while the second facility will be replaced with additional parking.

Earlier this month, the city of Independence proposed opening a recycling center at the site of a former City fire station.

Robert Heacock, city manager, said that “a number of area residents have expressed concerns about the proposed facility not fitting in with the surrounding neighborhood. Those concerns are important to the city, so it seems appropriate to take a step back and look at other location options.”

Heacock said that the City will still dismantle the old fire station, which was in bad condition and needed to come down, but that the location was no longer being considered for a recycling center.
