The Japanese trading house Mitsui & Co. has won an order to provide support services for eight Japanese automakers jointly recycling automobile shredder residue.
The services include the supervision of companies processing and recycling ASR for the eight automakers.
The eight makers are Nissan Motor Co., Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Mazda Motor Corp., Suzuki Motor Corp., Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., Isuzu Motors Ltd., Nissan Diesel Motor Co. and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corp.
They formed an alliance earlier this year to recycle ASR to meet a car-recycling law that will take effect in January 2005.
ASR is one of the products motor vehicle manufacturers will recover and recycle under the Vehicle Recycling Law that will require automakers to dispose of and recycle shredded scraps from junked vehicles.
