Japan-based Mitsubishi Materials Corp. has announced it plans to produce more than 177,000 tonnes of refined copper from April to September 2017, which would represent a 13% increase from output in the same time frame in 2016.
According to an online report from Reuters, the company foresees one of its smelters in Japan being able to increase output by 4%, while the other can boost its production by 30%.
Mitsubishi Materials also has said it plans to cut its production of recycled-content lead by 1.9% between April and September “due to lower supply of lead battery scrap,” according to Reuters.
On its website, Mitsubishi Materials says it accepts and recycles scrap containing copper, precious metals, rare earth metals and other nonferrous metals, including copper slag, scrap circuit boards, shredder dust, lead acid batteries and “other scrap and waste containing nonferrous metals.”
