A local businessman has presented an asphalt shingle recycling plan to the city council of Columbia, Mo., according to a report in the Missourian (Columbia, Mo.).
Randy Brown of RF Technologies, Chillicothe, Mo., has proposed a plan that would allow a reduced tipping fee as an incentive for contractors to bring asphalt shingles to the landfill, where the city would subcontract with a company to grind them into material that could be used for paving, according to the report.
Current specifications set by the Missouri Department of Transportation allow for recycled shingles to make up 5 percent of road mix.
