Jackson County Miss., has selected a local contractor and a Biloxi, Miss., engineering firm to handle the cleanup from Hurricane Katrina, according to a report in the Mississippi Press.
M&D Construction Co. of Moss Point, Miss., has been awarded the contract to complete the Hurricane Katrina debris cleanup in Jackson County and Neal Schaffer of Biloxi has been selected to monitor the project, according to the report.
The Mississippi Press reports that the contracts were awarded nearly a week after the county ended their debris removal contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which had been managing the cleanup since the storm hit. According to the report, the contract was terminated after the Corps was criticized for taking too much time to complete the job.
M&D Construction was chosen from a pool of 16 bids, while Schaffer was one of four engineering firms to submit proposals.
