Heartland Energy and Recycling, LLC received an air emissions permit from the Minnesota Pollution Board last week. The issuance of the permit is the last one the company will need before it breaks ground on a facility to process and burn used tires.
The company hopes to break ground on the facility later this year. The company is looking to build the facility in Preston, Minn. The board, in its decision, determined that the proposed project met all state and federal air pollution guidelines.
When fully operational the facility will be able to handle around 100,000 tons of used tires every year. The facility would bring in tires from a 500 mile radius.
The board approved the company’s plans despite opposition from a number of groups in the state.
