Douglas County, Minn., approved the sale of $3 million in bonds last week to help build a recycling plant in Alexandria, Minn.
The MRF would be tied directly to the Pope, Douglas County Solid Waste Incinerator.
The cost of the facility is expected to not exceed $4 million. Douglas County has agreed to fund $3 million of the project, and the Pope County Board last week approved the sale of $1 million in bonds to pay its designated portion of the project.
Both counties sought funding and grant money to help pay for a portion of the project, but Nagle said that repeated attempts were unsuccessful.
Nagle told the Echo Press that if all goes well, engineering and design of the plant would be completed yet this fall, and ground could be broken for the project by next spring.
The facility could be ready to operate by this time next summer, said Nagle.
Nagle stressed that the new recycling facility would not take the place of existing recycling programs in the county.
"The new facility will enhance our ongoing recycling efforts," he said. Echo Press
