Miller Recycling to Install Solar Panels at Massachusetts Plant

Massachusetts firm says installation will take around three months.

Miller Recycling Corp., a Massachusetts recycling company, has chosen Energy Systems & Installation (ESI), a North Oxford, Mass., renewable energy firm, to design and install a roof-mounted solar project at its Mansfield, Mass., facility. Miller expects to use the electricity generated at the solar project to offset its energy needs.

According to Randy Miller, CEO of Miller Recycling, “We have always strived to minimize our carbon footprint by instilling processes that emphasized efficiency and sustainability. Several years ago we upgraded all of our lighting, which reduced our energy consumption by close to 20 percent. Solar deployment is the next logical progression of that philosophy. The recycling industry has yet to develop strict guidelines for sustainability, so we choose to be a leader in that realm of our business.”

“After carefully reviewing these programs with solar consultants from ESI, it seemed like the right time to move forward with a project of this size and scope,” adds Miller. “While the sustainability component of this project is important to us, the financials have to work in our favor as well. ESI was very proficient in their explanation of the cash flow projections and how to make the most of the incentives available. Plus their pricing was extremely competitive.”

The project is currently in the initial phase of the permitting process. Once started, installation will take about 90 days and use local sub-contractors throughout the course of construction.
