Hartsville, South Carolina-based Sonoco, one of the largest global diversified packaging companies, has announced that its recycling business, Sonoco Recycling LLC, has a new leader with the promotion of Mike Pope to general manager and president. Pope most recently served as commercial director for Sonoco Recycling and has been an instrumental part of the recycling leadership team for the past five years, according to the company.
“We greatly value the leadership Mike has already shown for Sonoco Recycling and look forward to the great things yet to come,” says Rodger Fuller, group vice president of Industrial Americas, Sonoco.
Sonoco Recycling annually collects more than 3 million tons of old corrugated containers, various grades of paper, metals and plastics. Currently, Sonoco Recycling operates four material recovery facilities (MRFs) serving more than 125 communities in which curbside-collected residential as well as commercial materials are processed. The company also operates recycling programs that identify waste reduction opportunities and that reduce operating expenses for many of the largest consumer product companies in the United States.
Founded in 1899, Sonoco is a global provider of a variety of consumer packaging, industrial products, protective packaging and displays and packaging supply chain services. With annualized net sales of approximately $5 billion, the company has 20,800 employees working in more than 330 operations in 34 countries
